Australian Labradoodles are a result of mixing the parent breeds of the labrador, poodle and cocker spaniel. In the original development of this breed were other parent breeds such as Irish water spaniel, curly coat retriever and wheaten terrier, which to this day may still appear in some DNA testing due to the inaccuracy of these tests.
Over the years and due to the fact that we rarely backcross to the labrador ( to limit shedding ) studies have shown that the Labrador DNA does in fact diminish but that does not take away from the fact that generations before they were used in the original makeup of the Australian Labradoodle - unlike the hybrid of a Labrador x Poodle, these are a different combination.
At Lighthouse Labradoodles we are a multi-gen breeder, meaning we breed Labradoodles with another Labradoodle. Most of our litters are either working with the 4th or 5th generation Australian Labradoodle.
Australian Labradoodles are gentle, loyal, sociable and popular due to their trainability and temperament.
